Thomas J. “Tom” McCarthy, 80, of Esopus Creek Road died October 3, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. Born October 1, 1944, in South Troy, NY, he was the son of Francis McCarthy and Irene Fogg McCarthy. Tom was veteran of the U.S. Army Rainbow Division and was employed for many years at The Kingston Hospital before he retired.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Sheila, two daughters, Tamara McCarthy (Vincent) and Tegan McCarthy both of Saugerties, his sister-in-law Georgette Hughes of Saugerties and favorite nephew Aden Hughes (Heather). Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his siblings; brother, Carroll Phillips, and sisters Florence DesJarlais and Doris Flynn.
Tom was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School, Catholic Central High School and Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing.
He had many roles throughout his life. Ambulance attendant (Troy Ambulance Service), Certified EMT and respiratory therapist (Samaritan Hospital), and Registered Nurse at Kingston Hospital from 1977 until his retirement. At Kingston Hospital, he worked many years as night supervisor and then as patient bed coordinator between Kingston and Benedictine Hospitals.
Tom was a board member of Diaz Ambulance for over 20 years. He volunteered for the Saugerties Fire Department for many years; he was past Captain of Washington Hook & Ladder, and past Chief of Saugerties Fire Department. He was a member of the Saugerties Fire Department Benevolent Society.

His Funeral Procession will form 10:00 AM Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties thence to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church where at 10:30 AM a Mass of Christian Burial Will be offered. Friends will be received on Sunday 4:00-7:00 PM.
