Walter B. Hunt, Jr., 95, of Mt. Marion passed away at home on Friday, September 26, 2025. He was born on May 22, 1930 in Roxbury, NY the son of the later Walter and Suzy Hamm Hunt.
Walt grew up in Ashland, NY, one of three brothers. He understood the value of work at a young age and helped his father with deliveries and worked on neighboring farms. He enjoyed the outdoors especially ice skating on local creeks. He hade an ability for taking apart household items to understand how they worked. His Mother was very happy once he learned how to put these items back together. This mechanical ability would serve him well in his life.
At the age of 20, Walt enlisted in the USAF. He was stationed in Oakland, CA and Chanute AF Base, IL where he received his certifications for aircraft maintenance and electrical work. He received his certification as an Electrical Specialist when he was sent to New Castle, DE. While Walt was stationed in DE, He met his future wife, June Reynolds, at a roller-skating rink. They became engaged before he was shipped out to Yokota Air Base, Tokyo, Japan for two years.
Walt was discharged from the Air Force on Nov. 5, 1954. On Nov. 26th he and June were married at the Boothwyn Bible Presbyterian Church. After their wedding trip to Niagara Falls, they resided in Ashland, NY. Walt worked as a truck driver for H.B. Moore during construction on the NYS Thruway exit 21.
Walt and June bought property in Mt. Marion in 1956 and he applied for a position with IBM. He was hired as an Assembler and worked on typewriters and later mainframes until his retirement in March of 1990. He was an automobile enthusiast, a fan of the Yankees and late-night television. He liked to stay abreast of local and world news, especially politics. He was aa devoted husband and father and will be deeply missed by his family.
Walt was predeceased by June, his wife of 68 years, his son Stephen and two brothers Kenneth and Robert Hunt. He is survived by his two sons, Mark and David and a daughter, Carol (Evan) Hunt and several nieces and nephews.
