Wayne D. Lazarus

SAUGERTIES… Wayne D. Lazarus, 73, a 12 year resident of Fawn Rd. died on Friday, October 6th at Westchester Medical Center.  Born Oct. 27, 1949 in Mahopac he was the son of the late Charles and Rita (Hayes) Lazarus.   Wayne was a graduate of Red Hook HS.  He quit college to join the Navy in 1970.  Wayne was a Navy SEAL – Underwater Demolition Team 11.  He was on the Apollo 17 recovery team in 1972 and he participated in the evacuation of Saigon in 1975 and many other under water, jungle and recovery missions. 

He returned to civilian life in 1984 and had worked for UBS, Auto Ordinance/Gun Parts Corp., Nelson Supply and Simulaids.  Wayne is survived by his wife of 30 yrs., Colleen at home, a stepdaughter, Laura (Tyler) and their children, Olivia and Ryder of Red Hook.  Two brothers, Charlie of Standfordville and Jim of Illinois.  Three sisters: Colleen of Lafayetteville, Peggy of Florida and Eddie Lynn of NC., several nieces and nephews also survive.

Wayne was an avid fisherman and had a lifetime fishing license.   In his younger years he enjoyed camping, boating, hunting and black powder shooting.  He liked cats, making wine, jerky and pickles and was a fan of the NY Giants.

There will be no services.  Wayne will be cremated and after his wife passes, there ashes will be scattered together.   Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc.
