SAUGERTIES…. William D. Brinnier, III, 97, of Hommelville Rd. died Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home. Born October 5, 1926 in Kingston he was the son of the late Grant and Cornelia Carnright Brinnier. A lifelong area resident Bill graduated from Saugerties High School in 1944, and Union College in 1950 and he received his Law Degree from Albany Law School in 1953. A veteran of the US Navy he served from 1944-1946.
His career in law began as the Assistant District Attorney in Ulster County. He served as the Village of Saugerties acting Police Justice, Chairman of the Ulster County Civil Service Commission, the Town of Saugerties Justice of the Peace, the Saugerties School Board Attorney, a Saugerties Village Attorney, a hearing officer for the NYS Education Dept. and the Juvenile Division of the State, and he was in private practice until 1985 when he became the first Hearing Examiner of the Ulster County Family Court from which he retired in 1994.
Bill belonged to the American Bar Association, the Ulster County Bar Association, a former chairman of the Young Lawyers section of the NYS Bar Association and the NYS Magistrates Assoc. He was a former member of the Saugerties Lions Club and the Saugerties Power Boat Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post #72 and the Sportsman and Landowners Association.
Survivors include his wife, Christine Van Buskirk, a son, Russell and his wife Katherine Brinnier of NC. A Step Son: Robert W. Terwilliger of Queensbury, two grandchildren: Amber and Hanna and a niece, Bonnie Renaud. He was predeceased by a son, William D. “Billy” Brinnier, IV.
His Funeral Service will be held privately with burial in the Mt. View Cemetery, Saugerties.
