Obituary

SAUGERTIES.... William P. Geick, 87, of Buffalo Rd. and formerly of Harry Wells Road died Monday, May 31, 2021.  Born September 25, 1933 in Queens he was the son of the late Herman and Mae Geick.
A graduate of Nyack High School he went on to earn his degree at SUNY Cobleskill then entered the US Army where he served until 1958.

He relocated to Saugerties where he owned and operated Saugerties Discount Beverage and Park Discount Beverage in Hyde Park.
After his retirement he went back in to the work force for several years at Home Depot in Kingston.  Active in the community he served in the Ulster County Legislature for several years. He was a committeeman for the Saugerties Republican Party, a member of the Centerville Fire Co., a member and past president of the Saugerties Kiwanis Club, a life member of the Saugerties KofC, long time member of the Friday Night Poker Club, a past vice president of the Empire Beer Association and the owner of the B.I.G. (Bill & Irene Geick) Beer Museum.

Bill was proud of his family. He was a devoted husband and a friend to all. He was often referred to as 'The Mayor' by those close to him.  Every year he looked forward to Black Friday when he would buy enough poinsettias to deliver one to each of his family members and to many of his friends. He took the time to place flags in the cemeteries for our Veterans and he would always ask 'Did you vote yet?'.  Once an avid golfer, always routing for the Yankees, and forever Jimmy Fallon’s biggest fan.

Predeceased by his wife of nearly 65 years, Irene, a son, Billy, and daughter in law, Dawn,  survivors include a daughter, Mary Wawro, two sons: Edward and Richard (Donna) Geick all of Saugerties. His twin sister, Helen Blake of Ft. Worth, TX.  Six grandchildren: Josh (Kelsey) Wawro, Katrina Lombardo, Natasha (Mario) Tagliafierro, Alek (Felicia) Wawro, Nadia (Jim) Parola and Jacob (Alexis) Geick.  Five great grandchildren: Charlie, Franceska, Luca, Chloe and Asher.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret McCutcheon, and brother in laws: James Blake and James McCuthcheon.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ten Broeck Commons for the care given to both Bill and Irene.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to the Centerville Fire Company P.O. Box 372 Saugerties, NY 12477.
