Yvonne L. Detweiler, 97, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, in Poughkeepsie, NY, at the age of 97. Born on December 19, 1927, in Flint, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late John and Yetiva Clark Humphreys.
Yvonne's early years in Angola Indiana laid the foundation for a life full of learning and service. She pursued her education, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Indiana University. She was a member of the Chicago Symphony and later the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. Her passion for Music and Advocacy would involve her in many functions throughout her life
In addition to her civic engagement, Yvonne was a staunch supporter of the Fresh Air Fund, providing opportunities for inner-city children to experience the joys of nature. Her belief in the power of community and her desire to open doors for others were hallmarks of her generous spirit.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Virgil, her daughter, Jennifer, granddaughter Montana and her brother, Charles. Her legacy lives on through her loving children, Christopher (Evelyn) of Poughkeepsie, Timothy (Carolyn) of Lake Katrine, Gregory of Kingston, Maureen of Saugerties, Joy Woods of DE, Ron Gillis of VA, and Michael (Kathleen) of Lake Katrine. Yvonne was also the proud grandmother to 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
She loved flowers and gardening, Yvonne found peace and happiness in the beauty of the natural world. Her gardens were a reflection of her inner beauty. Above all, Yvonne cherished her family, and her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her children and their families at Fish Creek.
