SAUGERTIES…. Catherine E. “Kay” Hopper, 97, of Solway Rd. died peacefully Monday, December 17, 2018 at the Golden Hill Health Care Facility. Born December 14, 1921 in Kingston she was the daughter of the late Michael and Cora Tierney. A lifelong area resident, she loved the outdoors, keeping up with her yardwork and gardening in the summer and raking leaves in the fall. She loved camping and could be found sitting at the campfire listening to the stories of those who gathered around it, but only after the chores were done. At home, she was the self-declared chief bottle washer and enjoyed taking care of her family. She loved her children and grandchildren and adored their growing families. She worked for many years at Frank and Claire’s Deli in Saugerties and also worked as a housekeeper throughout her life, even up into her 90’s. Kay’s stamina was unmatched and she never left any job unfinished. She was loved dearly by her family and friends and will be missed by all those who had the honor to know her.
Survivors include a Daughter, Carol Reese (Gene) of Saugerties and a Son, Robert Hopper of Woodstock, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Norman and Harold Tierney and a grandson, Robert Sylvester. Her Funeral Service and Burial will be held privately. Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts. Saugerties. Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family on Catherine’s Tribute Wall @SeamonWilseyFuneralHome
