David Aurell, 83, of Saugerties. He was born September 8, 1934 in Mt. Kisco NY, son of the late
S. David and Anna (Moravic) Aurell. The family moved to a farm in Morris CT in 1936. David
attended James Morris School, graduating in 1952. He received his certificate in 1957 from
Cooper Union. A talented artist and sculptor, he worked in the display field in NYC for more
than 3 decades. He was especially proud of his creative work in 1986 on the Statue of Liberty
Centennial Celebration. Upon retirement, he moved back to Morris in 1990; later to Saugerties in
2013 to be near long-time friends. David died peacefully in his sleep at home on July 12,2018.
He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Aurell. He is survived by his brother Kenneth and
sister-in-law Deena Aurell of Wyoming, niece Karen LaTulipe, nephews John and Brian Aurell
of Morris CT, cousin Roger Foote and especially beloved cousin Ruth Wilder. He will be
especially missed by long-time close friends of nearly 50 years Jeanne and Ken Goldberg, Carole
Birdsall and their families; as well as long-time friends from his career and the “Garden Gang” in
NYC, and his new friends in Saugerties.
At his request cremation and services were private. Arrangements were under the kind direction
of Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., of Saugerties NY. If Donations in memory of David may
be sent to the Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Avenue, Saugerties NY 12477. He, his
creativity and his sense of humor, are missed.
