SAUGERTIES...August "Augie" Fellows, 84, of Esopus Dr., died Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at the Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Facility. He was born in Saugerties on June 5, 1937 to the late Enoch and Viola Williams Fellows. He operated heavy equipment since 1961 at Northeast Solite. Augie was involved in the Saugerties Community by actively participating in many organizations, especially the Saugerties Fire Department where he served as Chief in 1966. He was a Life Member of the CA Lynch Hose Co. #2, where he served as chief driver from 1965-1993, He was a member of the Saugerties Exempts Fireman's Assoc. and the Hudson Valley Firefighters Assoc. He was an altar boy at the Trinity Episcopal Church. He enjoyed being on the water serving as Commodore of the Saugerties Powerboat Assoc. and would take yearly trips to Lake Champlain. Augie was a member of Saugerties Elks Lodge #2574 and the American Legion Post #72 where he could frequently be found sharing a story and a laugh. He was part of the Wildcat Hollow Assoc. a self proclaimed group that would meet in Malden on Hudson. Lastly, since 1963 he was most proud of hosting the Saugerties Volunteer fire dept., Santa and Helpers, on Christmas Morning for breakfast at his home before they began the delivery of candy to the children of the village.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Dennis Vardy) Fellows and sister-in-law Barbara Fellows, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Louis F. and Barry E. Fellows and sister, Geraldine McKelvey.
His Funeral Service will be held 10 am Tuesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., cor. of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. His Family Burial Service will be in the Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diaz Ambulance or Saugerties Fire Dept.
