West Shokan-
Denis J Moran, 80 of West Shokan died Friday November 25, 2022 at his streamside residence with his loving family along side of him . He was born August 1, 1942 in Manhattan, son of the late Denis and Mary Sinnott Moran. He was a graduate of CUNY and NYU having earned his Doctorate in Biology. Denis was a Professor Emeritus of Biology at SUNY New Paltz after more than forty years of teaching biology. He was a respected research professional and a cited source for the scores of published papers on the topic of cell and developmental biology. He was naturally curious and interested in the biology of everything he encountered. Beyond his academic pursuits, Denis had a great appreciation of nature. He treasured walks in the wooded Catskill Mountains, and the chance to gather natural stone for the garden walls he loved to build. He was an avid fly fisherman and surf fisherman. He was a talented painter in both watercolor and acrylic media. Denis loved to cook, and his great joy was to prepare a wonderful meal for loved ones. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife Judith Hassler Moran, daughter Jane Slade Moran of MA, and son Clayton Moran of W. Hurley. Two brothers: Arthur and his wife Eileen of Warwick, and James and his wife Peg of Carmel. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 am at St. John's Church 12 Holly Hills Dr. Woodstock with Pastor Fr. Tom Kiely. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home 45 John St. Saugerties.
