SAUGERTIES…. Doris Lee Schell, 95, of Blue Hills Dr. died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born November 13, 1927 in Hamburg, NJ she was the daughter of the late James and Christina Talmadge. Doris was a lifetime area resident of Saugerties where she was employed for over 17 years at Ferroxcube and later owned and operated The Village Barn Restaurant on Main St in Saugerties.
Doris grew up in a large family, as she was one of seventeen children. She enjoyed, traveling the country, gardening, crocheting, shopping and had a distinct love for her hats, but none more greater than spending time with her beloved family.
Survivors include her three daughters: Ruth Henriksen and Debra Sullivan both of Saugerties as well as Tammy Neglia of Palenville, a sister, Christina Freligh and a brother, Andrew Talmadge. Doris is also survived by her 29 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her 1st husband, Francis “Banjo” Ackert who she shared all 6 children with. Doris is also predeceased by her 2nd husband, Kenneth Schell, her three children: Doris “Dolly” Ackert, Francis “Dink" Ackert and James "Jimmy" Ackert, three grandchildren: Jason Silinovich, Donald Sullivan and Alexa Henriksen, and a great grandson, Zachary Brown.
Doris was truly loved and adored by many. Family and friends will be received Sunday November 20, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. Her Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Corner of John & Lafayette Street., Saugerties. Burial will follow in the Mt. View Cemetery.
