Fred J. Costello

Fred J. Costello, 83 of Glasco, passed away peacefully at home on January 19, 2022 with his loving family at his side. 

Born May 21, 1938 in Kingston, NY to the late Louis and Mary Mayone Costello, Fred was a lifelong resident of Glasco. He is survived by his wife Maria DiPaola Costello; children Fred (Kimberlee) Costello, Christopher (Marylynn) Costello, John Costello and Suzanna (Jeffrey) Bernard; and grandchildren Cameron, Nicole, Addison, Louis, Annabella and Nicholas. He is also survived by sister Rose Rinaldi and sister-in-law Stella Costello as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Fred is predeceased by son Louis Costello and siblings Fannie DeCicco, Stella Sasso, Mary Misasi, Frank Costello, Marge Forcino, Louis Costello and Theresa Misasi.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Fred served a tour during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Saugerties High School and went on to serve as Superintendent of the Glasco Water District.

Fred, along with his wife Maria, founded Sue’s Restaurant in 1985, which continues to be operated by his family today. He and his lifelong business partner, Michele Tagliafierro, owned and operated 9W Car Wash and 9W Barber Shop. He was a fixture in the businesses throughout the years and was known for his strong work ethic, warm smile, and pleasant demeanor. He was a history buff and enjoyed his beloved backhoe, his wife’s cooking, and spending time outdoors. Fred had an adventurous spirit and was a wonderful travel companion. He especially enjoyed his trip to Alaska with his wife and many members of his extended family. Above all, Fred loved being married to his wife and spending time with his family and friends.

His funeral procession will form 9:15 am Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral home, Inc, Corner of John & Lafayette Streets. Thence to St. Mary of the Snow RC Church, where at 10:00 AM, a mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Barclay Heights, Saugerties. Friends will be received Sunday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM.
