Jean Bishop Obituary

SCHENECTADY….. R. Jean Bishop, 96, formerly of Knolls Rd, died Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the Pines in Catskill, NY.   Born June 2, 1924 in Ithaca she was the daughter of the late James and Abbie Alexander.  A graduate of Ithaca High School and Ithaca Business College, she was employed in the Town Clerk’s Office in Niskayuna for many years.

Jean enjoyed gardening, bowling bridge and golf.  She was a member of the Northway Heights Golf Club in Ballston Lake.  In 1983 she moved to Spartanburg, SC where she became a member of the Lan-Yair Golf Club.  She returned to New York in 2014.  She and her late husband, John, enjoyed two cross country trips and many golf weekends with friends.  Jean was initially a Seventh-Day-Baptist, and was a member of Calvary (now Korean) United Methodist Church in Schenectady, then at Covenant United Methodist Church in Boiling Springs, NC.  

Predeceased by her husband, John, survivors include two daughters: Barbara and her husband Mark Sanborn of Saugerties, Betty and her husband Vincent Wetmiller of Union Hall, VA, and son, James Bishop of Texas.  Three grandchildren: Emma Sanborn, Samantha Humphreys and Rebecca Wetmiller, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Her Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at St. James United Methodist Church, Pearl and Fair Sts., Kingston.   Burial will take place in Memory Gardens, Colonie.  Friends will be received Thursday 4-6:00 PM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.  Visitors are encouraged to wear something floral as we celebrate Jean and her life-long love of flower gardens.  The family would like to thank Glen Eddy and The Pines Rehab for the superlative care they gave Jean.  Any donations in her memory may be sent to St. James UMW for Matizha Clinic, 35 Pearl St., Kingston.
