SAUGERTIES....Jorge Mazariego Umaña, 55, of Market St., died suddenly on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the Westchester Medical Facility. He was born in El Despoblado, Metápan, El Savador on April 24, 1966 to Hermina Mazariego and the late Vicente Umaña. Jorge left El Savador in 1985 en route to the US in pursuit of the American dream. He arrived in Brownsville, TX and eventually found his way to Saugerties. In 1988 Jorge began working at Pizza Star where through the years made many friends and became a famous face in town. He was always a hard worker and lived life his way. Several times Jorge left Saugerties to explore new adventures but his road always led him back.
In addition to his mom, survivors include his two daughters, Kayla Lacono of the Bronx and Cindy Sandoval of Kingston; three sisters, Marta Lida Mazariego, Gloria Isabel Mazariego and Rosa Domitlia Mazariego all of TX and one brother, Vicente Mazariego of TX.
His Funeral Service will be held 12 pm Wednesday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 pm Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to his mother Hermina and can be dropped off at or mailed to Pizza Star, 346 Rte. 212, Saugerties.
