Kay Disbrow Obituary

WOODSTOCK…. Kay P. Disbrow, 79, died Saturday, January 30, 2021 in her home in Woodstock.   Born October 26, 1941 near Seattle, Washington she was the daughter of the late Howard and Mildred Disbrow. Kay came to Woodstock in the late ‘60’s, took a deep breath and started making friends. She kept right on doing that for the entire 50-plus years that she lived here. When she was first here, in a little cottage on the edge of the Village, she made a living sewing for other people and buying and selling vintage cloth and clothing as she had done in her shop “The Turtle” in the city before she came to Woodstock. Her speciality was antique silk velvet. For the last half of her life she made her living as an artist: she worked as a weaver for a while before settling on dying and sewing silk velvet garments and scarves of her own design.  The first outlet for her work was the Sweetheart Gallery in Woodstock where she sold some of her high-end jackets and where she worked for a time. For some years she sold her work at crafts fairs in the northeast and when that became too difficult, she converted a room in her house into a little shop and sold her work as well as vintage clothing at special sales several times a year. The whole time she kept making friends. She was everybody’s favorite customer. She became friends with everyone we ever introduced her to. She is so missed.

She is survived by her partner, Peter Kricker, her only daughter, Emily Barzin of Kerhonkson, two grandchildren: Leon and Hailey Kellerhouse, Peter’s son and daughter Matthew and Jamie, Jamie’s son Oliver, and a ton of other folks.  She was predeceased by a brother, James Disbrow.

Her Service will be held at a later date.   Arrangements were under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., Cor. Of John &Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.   Expressions of condolence and further obituary information can be posted on Kay’s Tribute Wall at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
