Lee Schackne Obituary

SAUGERTIES.....Lee David Schackne passed away on January 2, 2021 in Saugerties, NY. Born March 4, 1959 in Brooklyn, NY Lee was one of the most thoughtful, loving, funny, and charismatic humans who lived and loved life to the fullest. With a cigar in his hand and smile on his face he brought happiness and laughter to all those around him. Often referred to as “Lucky Lee,” he was smart, creative, and the greatest friend any one could ask for; loyal, gregarious, and non-judgmental. His thirst for adventure lead him on his many travels to Australia, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. Lee attended Brooklyn College for Fashion Design and eventually manufactured private label apparel for major retailers. In 1991 Lee moved to Saugerties, NY where he opened an antique store and wholesale business. He met his wife Christine and they were married in 1992.  Lee took tremendous joy in his family and relished their summer’s spent on the beach in Rockport, Massachusetts where he would soak up the sun, feast on lobsters, and teach his daughters how to truly enjoy life. Lee spent his last days enjoying the simple pleasures, watching the red cardinals over the pond behind his house, eating home cooked meals made by his loving wife, and in his words “just takin’ it nice and easy.” Lee will be missed by all, and remembered for his huge heart and unconditional love. Instead of leaving us with sadness we know that Lee would have much preferred to leave us with big smiles on our faces, always remembering to give unsolicited acts of kindness and laughter to those around us, like he always did. Lee leaves his beloved wife Christine Schackne, his adored daughters Rebecca and Rachel Schackne, sister Caren Schiffmiller (Douglas), nieces Allie and Sarah Schiffmiller, his father Jerome Schackne, and numerous friends. He is predeceased by his mother Faye Schackne .
A memorial Service will be held at a later date due to the pandemic.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc.
