Marilyn Lenz Obituary

SAUGERTIES….. Marilyn Lenz, 79, of Manorville Rd. died Thursday, August 18, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born July 10, 1943 in Brooklyn she was the daughter of the late John and Genevieve Lyle. A Saugerties area resident since 1971 she was a former resident of Brooklyn.

For over 50 years she worked as a nurse. Marilyn started her nursing career in Saint Vincents’ in Staten Island, she was the Critical Care Coordinator at Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. After relocating to Saugerties from Brooklyn she became the Nursing Supervisor at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston under the direction of Sister Mary Charles. Marilyn was instrumental with the Oncology Unit and went on later to work under Dr. Donavon to make the lives of her cancer patients better. Marilyn was the epitome of caring, kindness and Grace. The medical field has lost an angel.

Marilyn was extremely active in the community. She was a member of the Saugerties Girls Community Club, the Saugerties Lions Club and was a volunteer at the Well Thrift Store. She was also a parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow RC Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

Marilyn met and married her soulmate Manfred after a chance encounter at the Woodbine Restaurant and Bar in Palenville, NY. Manfred would have you believe that Marilyn peered through the open window and noticed a young man with a large wallet sitting at the bar, but as we know, it only held his bus ticket to California. Manfred and a friend were heading West after fulfilling his Naval obligation. As chance would have it they fell in love and celebrated 59 years of marriage, children, grandchildren and of course great grandchildren.

They spent their lives devoted to each other and their growing family. They traveled the world extensively including her bucket list trip to the Vatican and never missed an opportunity to be with their little people.

Survivors include her husband, Manfred; daughter, Dawn, and her husband John D’Elia of Saugerties; two sons: Sean and Todd and his wife Eileen Lenz; sister, Denise Bennett of Brooklyn; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Marilyn was predeceased by her daughter Kim in late 2014.

Her Funeral Mass was held 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Mary’s RC Church, Cedar St., Saugerties. Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.  Family suggests donation in her memory be made to the Saugerties Lions Club Sight Program, PO Box 32, Saugerties.
