SAUGERTIES…..Roy W. McLaren, 86, died Friday, October 29, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born August 18, 1935 in Camden, NJ. He was the son of the late Roy and Helen McLaren.
A Saugerties area resident since 1965, he previously resided in New Jersey and Massachusetts. He was a retired employee of IBM Kingston where he was a programmer. Roy was a graduate of Marist College majoring in Physics and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club. A voracious reader, he enjoyed American History. He loved to tinker with computers and was a car enthusiast who was always willing to tackle an auto problem. He was a movie “buff” and enjoyed big band music. True to his South Jersey roots Roy remained a loyal Eagles and 76'ers fan.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, two sons: Michael and his wife, Catherine McLaren of Delmar and Kevin and his wife, Victoria McLaren of Ulster Park. A daughter, Heather and her husband, Patrick Rafferty of Albany. Six grandchildren: Jessica Rafferty, Alexander, Samuel, Matthew, Adam and Josh McLaren also survive.
His Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, November 4th, at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Friends will be received Wednesday, November 3rd, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Family suggests donations in his name be made to Habitat For Humanity, 406 NY-28, Kingston, NY 12401.
