Shirley Marcella Ganas, 81, peacefully left this realm on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 on her own terms in her home and with the same grace she lived her life. Shirley was born in Nanticoke, PA to parents Anthony Rasmus who was a coal miner and Catherine Bedzieski who was a homemaker. She was one of eleven children. Shirley was a graduate of Bristol High School in Bristol, Connecticut and spent the majority of her life working as an insurance claims adjuster until retiring. Before moving to Upstate New York with her daughter Nicole in 2017, Shirley spent time in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Florida. Shirley is survived by her brother Ray Rasmus, daughters Nicole Ganas and Kristen Ganas-Penney and by her grandchildren Evelyn, Kallem and Christian.
Shirley was a warm, joyful, social and kind person with a quiet sense of humor, adventure and spunk who carried herself with elegance. She had a great love of animals and children and enjoyed staying active throughout her life with interests that included painting, skiing, exercising, dancing, dining out, bike riding, travel and her senior social club. Music was a light in her life and a special connection. She was over the moon for Elvis Presley. Shirley loved going for car rides and was awe struck by clouds and the boundless natural beauty of the Catskills and Hudson Valley. In her late life, Shirley’s best pal was her granddaughter, Evelyn.
Her Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., cor. of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in Shirley's memory to the animal organization Stray H.E.L.P (www.strayhelp.org). Shirley’s life will be privately celebrated with family.
