Steven Sherman Obituary

SAUGERTIES -  Steve M. Sherman, 81, of Shagbark Pond Road, died Friday, March 29, 2024 in his home, surrounded by his beloved family on the land he cherished as his “sanctuary”, in the Catskills.  Born March 30, 1942 in the Bronx he was the son of the late Sidney and Mildred Sherman. He was born into art; a calligrapher in his early career and evolved into an Art Director for Marketing in New York City. His presence and smile lit up any room or space he ever entered and made so many people feel loved. He retired in 2001 with his wife Irma and moved up permanently to Saugerties.  In his retirement, his passions never ceased as he continued to explore the creativity and art of Wood Turning, becoming a Master Wood Turner while teaching and collaborating with his wonderful brother and sisterhood of friends.  He continued to grow, nurture and love each and every one of his friendships from childhood until his golden years.  He was a lover of art, nature, spiritualism, photography, fishing, hunting, race car driving, music, food/cooking, laughter and was the quintessential story-teller.  His passions were endless as was his love for his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Sherman; daughter, Jodi Sherman and son, Daniel Sherman both of Saugerties.  His sister, Susan Treuman of Louisville, KY; nieces Kirsten Treuman of Louisville KY and Betsy Treuman of Murphy, Oregon; brother-in-law Richard Schafstetin of Rock Hill, New York and his life-partner, Helena Majewska.

Family and Friends will be received on Friday, April 5th from 2PM -6PM at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. corner of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties.  Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
