Thomas Kevin Hilts

Thomas Kevin Hilts, a resident of Saugerties, New York and formerly of Gouverneur, age 72, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Tom was born on March 3, 1952 in Gouverneur to Robert and Glenrose (Calnon) Hilts. He grew up and spent most of life in Gouverneur until moving away to be closer to his granddaughters. 

Tom graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1970 where he played football, basketball and baseball. He was named first team All Northern in football as a running back in 1969. Tom married LuAnn Morrill, on June 24, 1978, in Gouverneur. 

Tom will be remembered as caring father and a good friend. His friends will tell stories about him for years to come. He enjoyed coaching youth basketball and football in Gouverneur for many years. He never a missed any of his son’s many sporting events. Tom was a long-time member of the Gouverneur Country Club. He spent his last few years being known as ‘Poppy’ and making his granddaughters laugh. 

Tom is survived by his wife LuAnn; son, Craig Hilts and his wife Bryn and their daughters June and Winnie of Concord, Massachusetts; son, Michael Hilts and his wife Alyson and their daughter Aubrey of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania; brother Timothy Hilts of Kingston, New York; brother Sandy Hilts of Gouverneur; along with nieces, nephews and many friends. Tom was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Peter Hilts and Patrick Hilts.
